Founder

Funso Doherty is the founder of Doherty & Company and the Investment Management Principles course instructor. He is an accomplished Investment Management Professional with a distinguished record in the field.

He previously served as Managing Director/CEO of PAL Pensions Ltd and ValuAlliance Asset Management Ltd,( formerly SIM Capital Alliance ) where he led the Asset Management (Non-Private Equity) business of the African Capital Alliance (ACA) Group.

Prior to this, Funso served as the Pioneer Managing Director and CEO of ARM Pension Managers, which he led from its inception to become one of Nigeria’s most successful Pension Fund Managers. While at ARM Pensions, he was elected Pioneer Chairman of the Pension Fund Operators Association (PENOP) the industry association of all licensed Pension Fund Managers and Custodians in Nigeria.

In his extensive experience as an investment professional, spanning almost three decades, Funso has held a number of positions in leading foreign and local investment management firms including Goldman Sachs & Company and PNC Advisors in the United States of America and ARM in Nigeria. He started his career in the Lagos office of the Assurance and Business Advisory practice of Arthur Andersen (now KPMG).

Funso is experienced in managing equity and fixed income portfolios and in the course of his career has led teams managing both segregated accounts and mutual funds comprised of pension and non-pension assets. 

Funso holds the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation of the CFA Institute and is a co-founding trustee of the CFA Society Nigeria. He is also a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria.

He holds a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) from Harvard University and a B.Sc in Accounting from the University of Lagos.
